Art Techniques FAC by Kyle Darnell

There's a lot of different ways to make Art. I know some, and so do you. But I want to know what you don't know. Your assignment is to think of a technique or media you would like to learn. This can be charcoal drawing, watercolor, acrylic, bookbinding, collage, crackle paint. Honestly anything. And you will post a link to it online with a brief description of it. We won't get to most of them in class, but we might. Here is my example.

http://boingboing.net/2014/10/09/foundations-in-comic-book-art.html

I would like to learn Comic Book art. And not just how to arrange a book or write a story, but how to deal with certain angles, scene building, the importance of line. I think this would help the class because I think everyone has a story I'm sure they want to get out.

Art You Like FAC by Kyle Darnell

Post a link to an artist you like.  Please refrain from the Ninja Turtles (DaVinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, Donatello), try to find someone more current. Write a little bit about what you like and how you would recomend them to others.

Here is mine.

Trenton Doyle Hancock

http://www.jamescohan.com/artists/trenton-doyle-hancock/

Trenton Doyle Hancock deals with issues ranging from current political climate, cool scenerery, to the deeper recesses of the artists' mind. His work is dynamic, playful, dark, and super weird. I would recommend him to anyone who enjoys an artist at play.

See, simple and to the point. These discussions will be posted every Monday and due every Sunday.

Quarterly Project FAC by Kyle Darnell

You get to decide what your project is for the end of the quarter. You however have to run it by me first. I will say you don’t have to make a video and you don’t have to work in groups. This is your opportunity to show off so go for it.

I find that sometimes, it is easier to formulate thoughts into works by writing them down. So tell me about your project by answering these questions:

What is it?

Why is it?

What size/length is it?

If you are working in a group, both partners will need to still post on this. I know we are working on the animal project, so this is your opportunity to think ahead.

Ketchup Week FAC by Kyle Darnell

There is no new assignment this week. Instead I am giving you the opportunity to complete assignments you missed for half credit. Doesn't sound like much, but it is way better than a zero.

Now I am not going to dig through all the posts to find who caught up on what, when. You will need to comment on this with which ones you caught up on and I will double check it from there. If you don't write anything here, I will assume you didn't need it.

Time Travel Q & A FAC by Kyle Darnell

This weeks online assignment was written by Amaya Johnson from IB art. Since she covered Van Gogh, why don't y'all find someone different. Make sure to follow her format.

If you could meet any artist today who would it be and why?

For me, it would be Vincent Van Gogh because he cut off his ear and ate paint so I think it would be interesting to talk to him. He also was poor most of his life and I would want to ask him questions about how he still created art and what he did to be an artist. I also would want to tell him how famous he is today and how he became a highly regarded artist after his death. I would also want to ask him about his techniques and what artists he looked up to as he was growing.

The Baroque period existed in the 1600s and its style consisted of dynamic figures, extreme dark to light shading called tennebrisim, and was considered the natural evolution of the High Renaissance. Some artists are Michelangelo Caravaggio, Rembrandt van Rijn, and Artemisia Gentileschi. It was succeeded by Rococo and Neo Classical art movments.

Sewing Techniques FAC by Kyle Darnell

For the upcoming project I am going to show you some sewing techniques. Unfortunately for you I am not going to show you all of them as there are dozens of different versions of stitches. Your assignment is to research a sewing technique that I don't cover in class. Post a link, talk a little bit about it, and practice it on your demo square that I give you in class.

There is a lot of different types of stitches that have different purposes so feel free to do more than one if you want.

To facilitate this type some variation of "Hand sewing technique" into your search browser and go from there.

Tell me your story FAC by Kyle Darnell

This next couple of weeks we are making children books in Watercolor. This weeks online assignment is to tell me what your story is.  I would like a one paragraph story summary. Use this as an opportunity to write down what's in your head to make sure it makes sense.

Color Artist FAC by Kyle Darnell

This unit is focusing on color so what I need from you is some information about artists that are know for their use of color. Obviously a portrait painter will use color in their work, but is it the most important aspect of their work?

There are some areas to look at of course, to get you started. You can use these as a jumping off point, but I expect this to be about an artist during that time frame.

Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Expressionism, Abstract Expressionism, Symbolism, Cubism, and Surrealism should get you started. It is by no means a comprehensive list.

And a reminder about the format. Last name and class period. Post a link to the artist you researched then 2-3 sentences about that artist and what they did.

What did you learn? FAC by Kyle Darnell

What did you learn in Mr. Mauers portion of FAC? More specifically what is something you know now that you didn't before?

"I didn't learn anything" isn't acceptable and you will recieve a zero.

And do your best not to repeat answers previously posted, that can get real boring, real fas

Your Future FAC by Kyle Darnell

Simple, tell me what you plan on being after college and why. Never to early to start thinking about it. I don't expect it to be about art, but make sure to include a link to what you are talking about. And not everyone can be a Wolverine Trainer.
