Keeping up with the Carravaggio's IB / by Kyle Darnell

This week's online assignment is brought to you by Sophie Nicholson.

If you could resurrect one artist and give them a reality TV show, who would you choose and why?

I'd choose Caravaggio because he was just as dramatic as his paintings. Not only is he remembered as being arrogant and rebellious, he literally just. Challenged people to sword fights. Randomly. Who does that? Caravaggio does. According to one of his biographers: ''after a fortnight's work he will swagger about for a month or two with his sword at his side and with a servant following him, from one ball-court to the next, ever ready to engage in a fight or argument, with the result that it is most awkward to get along with him''. After reading that, tell me you wouldn't love to see this man thrown into modern society and put on TV. I don't even watch reality television, but I would pay to see some sort of Keeping Up With Caravaggio. Aside from just his hypothetical value as a source of entertainment, I definitely would not be complaining if he could come back and make more artwork. It would be super cool to see what new stuff he'd make and how his art would change in reaction to the modern world.
